Qatar University – SCHOLARSHIPS TYPES
All scholarships cover the cost of tuition fees while the benefits of some scholarships may also include one or more of the following benefits: the cost of textbooks fees free accommodation in university dormitories, transportation to and from the University, and a yearly airfare ticket to the home country for students who are not residents of Qatar. The student shall pay the due penalties in case he/she drops courses, or withdraw from the semester. Scholarships contained within this guide includes only first bachelor students and students who transfer from other universities to Qatar University. Non-degree applicants, visiting students, and applicants seeking a second bachelor’s degree are not eligible for academic scholarships offered by Qatar University.
Competitive Scholarships
These Scholarships are offered by the University to students from Islamic and other countries. The applicants to these scholarships may be nominated by their embassies or may apply directly to Qatar University. Nominated students may receive these scholarships during the Fall semester and the Spring semester of the same academic year, though they are NOT allowed to transfer the scholarship to the next academic year. Islamic and other Countries Scholarships
These Scholarships are offered by the University to students from Islamic and other countries. The applicants to these scholarships may be nominated by their embassies or may apply directly to Qatar University. Nominated students may receive these scholarships during the Fall semester and the Spring semester of the same academic year, though they are NOT allowed to transfer the scholarship to the next academic year. There are two types of these scholarships which are internal and external Scholarships. These scholarships are offered by the University to applicants from within the State of Qatar.
Internal Scholarships
These scholarships are offered by the University to applicants from within the State of Qatar. Benefits: These scholarships include exemption only from tuition fees and book fees. Qualifications: Applicants must meet the admission requirements for the college and major that they applied to. Including the final, official high school transcript for newly admitted applicants. Required Documents: None. Continuity Conditions: Students must meet academic scholarships terms and conditions in order to maintain the scholarship. External Scholarships These scholarships are offered by the University to applicants from outside Qatar. These applicants may be nominated by their embassies or may apply directly to Qatar University. Benefits: Students will be sponsored by Qatar University and these scholarships include exemption from courses tuition fees, provision of university accommodation, an annual round trip airfare ticket and textbooks fees exemption. Qualifications: Applicants must meet the admission requirements for the college and major that they applied to. Including the final, official high school transcript for newly admitted applicants. Required Documents: The student applied to majors taught in English as a first or second preference must demonstrate proficiency in English and Mathematics by satisfying the minimum competency requirements by submitting IELTS (5.5) and SAT (570) or ACT (24). Continuity Conditions: Students must meet academic scholarships terms and conditions in order to maintain the scholarship.
H.H. the Emir of Qatar’s Scholarships for Academic Excellence
These scholarships are offered by the University to best high school fresh graduates who attain high averages in the Qatari Secondary Education Examinations. Ten male and ten female scholarships are awarded each year. Benefits: These Scholarships include exemption from tuition fees and book fees. Qualifications: Hold a Qatari Secondary Education Certificate. A minimum average of 95% in the secondary school certificate. The applicant should be a secondary school graduate in the same year in which the scholarship application is made. These scholarship awards are only made in the Fall semester. The applicant must register in the Fall semester. Required Documents: None. Continuity Conditions: Students must meet academic scholarships terms and conditions in order to maintain the scholarship.
Outstanding Performance Scholarship
his scholarship is offered to Qatar University current and undergraduate students whose performance is outstanding in University courses. Benefits: These Scholarships include exemption from tuition fees only. Qualifications: Must be enrolled in Qatar University. Must have minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 out of 4.00. Must have completed at least 30 credit hours in QU. Students with the highest cumulative GPA will be selected. Required Documents: None. Continuity Conditions: Students must meet academic scholarships terms and conditions in order to maintain the scholarship.
QU Honors Program Scholarship
The Honors scholarship targets the active Honors students at Qatar University. It will be given to 3 Honors students each academic year. Benefits: These Scholarships include exemption from tuition fees only. Qualifications: An applied Honor student must complete the Freshman Seminar (core 1) An applied Honor student must complete at least 3 credit hours from the core curriculum courses (core 2 and core 3) An applied Honor student must not have any violation with QU policies and regulations. An applied Honor student must not have any other scholarship. Required Documents: None. GCC States Scholarships (Embassies)
these scholarships are offered by the University to students of GCC countries who hold the High School Certificate or its equivalent in their countries or any other country with the exception of the State of Qatar. A number of scholarships are allocated to each GCC country. Such scholarships can be postponed to the second term in the same academic year but not to the next academic year. Benefits: These scholarships include exemption from tuition fees and receive free accommodation from the University. Qualifications: Obtain a letter from the embassy addressed to Qatar University requesting consideration for this specific scholarship. Applicant must meet the admission requirements for the college and major that they applied to. Required Documents: None. Continuity Conditions: The student must satisfy the maximum period of studies terms condition as clarified in the terms and conditions section.
GCC Qatari Certificate Scholarships
These scholarships are offered by the University to GCC students who hold the Qatari High School Certificate. Benefits: These scholarships include exemption from tuition fees only. Qualifications: Applicants must meet the admission requirements for the college and major that they applied to. Required Documents: None. Qatari National’s Children Scholarships
These scholarships are offered by the University to Non-Qatari students of a Qatari mother or a Qatari father. Benefits: These scholarships include exemption from tuition fees only. Qualifications: Applicants must meet the admission requirements for the college and major that they applied to. Required Documents: A photocopy of the student’s mother/father Qatar ID card. A copy of the student’s birth certificate. Continuity Conditions: The student must satisfy the maximum period of studies terms condition as clarified in the terms and conditions section.
Qatari Husband Scholarships
These scholarships are offered by the University to Non-Qatari female students married to Qatari Nationals. Benefits: These scholarships include exemption from tuition fees only. Qualifications: Applicants must meet the admission requirements for the college and major that they applied to. Required Documents: The marriage contract. Copy of the ID card of the husband. Continuity Conditions: The student must satisfy the maximum period of studies terms condition as clarified in the terms and conditions section.
Children of Qatar University Employees Scholarships
These scholarships are offered by the University to the children of Qatar University employees. The University offers a maximum of two scholarships to two children of the employee at one time. If the parents are both working at Qatar University, tuition fees for a third child are reduced by 50 %. Benefits: These scholarships include exemption from tuition fees only. Qualifications: Applicants must meet the admission requirements for the college and major that they applied to. The parent(s) of the applicant must be a full-time job employee at QU. Required Documents: Certified Copy of the applicant’s Birth Certificate ( if the mother is the QU employee ). Letter from Human Resources of Qatar University verifying the employment of the parent(s), mentioning the following points: The employment number. The employment type is Full-time Job. The employment category (Academic or non-academic). Continuity Conditions: The student must satisfy the maximum period of studies terms condition as clarified in the terms and conditions section.
College of Education Diploma Scholarships
Qatar University offers a number of scholarships for students who want to join the Diploma programs offered by the College of Education. Benefits: These scholarships include exemption from tuition fees only. Qualifications: Applicant must meet the admission requirements for the college and major that they applied to. Applicant must be working under the ministry of education and higher education or any governmental educational organization. It should be the first time for the applicant to apply for a scholarship at the same category offered by the College of Education. Required Documents: “To whom it may concern” Letter for the new academic year proofing that the applicant is working under the ministry of education and higher education or any governmental educational organization. Copy of ID card or passport (identification card). Continuity Conditions: The student must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50 out of 4 at the end of each semester. The duration of studying shouldn’t exceed three semesters excluding the semesters of absence and withdraw. The student should not be absent or withdraw for two separated or consecutive semesters. If the student fails in meeting any of the conditions to maintain the scholarship, it will be canceled and the student will have to pay the tuition fees for the following semesters. After the student’s scholarship has been canceled, he/she will not be eligible to receive that scholarship again, regardless of whether the situation is amended. In all cases, the academic policies will be applied to the student as shown in the Student Handbook. Short Scholarships for the Arabic Program for Non-Native Program This scholarship is designed to learn Arabic for non-native speakers students from outside Qatar. The admission process to this scholarship is handling by the International Students Section in coordinating with the Arabic for Non-Native Speakers Program. The student can apply to this program as a personal application or the student can be nominated by one of the organizations which have an established agreement with Qatar University and admitted by the President of Qatar University to grant scholarship in an annual basis. Ministry of Education and Higher Education – The State of Qatar
The HEI’s scholarship office is responsible for administering scholarship programs which enable students to be supported in undergraduate and post-graduate studies at the best higher education institutions in Qatar and around the world. This office is also responsible for following up on scholarship recipients’ financial and administrative affairs and monitoring their academic progress by communicating with their respective universities, guardians, and students themselves via e-mails, phone calls, letters or visits. In November 2009, the Higher Education Institute updated the list of the best colleges and universities from around the world that students can attend with scholarship support from the government. The list, which now totals 675 schools, ensures scholarship recipients in Qatar will be receiving the best post-secondary education possible. Also in November 2009, the HEI announced the Hamad bin Khalifa and the Tamim bin Hamad Grants Programs, which will offer high achieving students scholarships to 30 select universities. Undergraduate Entry requirements: The applicant must be a Qatari citizen. The applicant must have a high school certificate or its equivalent during the last five years. The applicant must apply to study at a university on the list of Sheikh” Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani” scholarship. Scholarship recipient must obtain an acceptance of a university on the list. Scholarship recipient must not have a degree similar to the required degree. After graduation the scholarship recipient must work in the service of the State for a period equal to the scholarship period Scholarship recipient should pass a personal interview. Financial incentives: The Scholarship recipient gets an annual bonus subject to successful completion of the academic year, as follows: Excellent – a reward of $ (50,000) fifty thousand QR. Very good – a reward of $ (40,000) forty thousand QR. Good – a reward of $ (30,000) thirty thousand QR. SCHOLARSHIPS by Doha Institute for Graduate Studies
Doha Institute for Graduate Studies offers a wide variety of scholarships annually to attract academically qualified students from within and outside the State of Qatar. The scholarships vary, some awarded on the basis of merit and academic competition, while others are based on financial need. Terms and Conditions 1) No student may combine the scholarships of the Institute with any other scholarship whatever the source thereof. 2) Only students who have a good academic standing continue to benefit from the Institute’s scholarships. It is dedicated to the most distinguished Qatari, Residents in Qatar and international students in the Arab world. The scholarship includes full tuition fees coverage, International students from outside Qatar will benefit from having free accommodation in institute dormitories, a monthly stipend, health insurance, and two travel tickets from and to home country upon arrival and after graduation. 2) Sanad Scholarship These scholarship based on financial needs of students. It is dedicated to Qatari, Residents in Qatar and international students. The scholarship includes covering a program’s fees (10 to 100 %). International students from outside Qatar will benefit from having their full tuition fees covered, in addition to free accommodation in institute dormitories, a monthly stipend, health insurance, and two travel tickets from and to home country upon arrival and after graduation.
